Restore Village Extended School Program to the Classified Employees of Monrovia USD

The Issue

We draw attention to the decision of the Monrovia Unified School District (MUSD) to outsource the Village Extended School Program to an external agency, the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills. This has forced classified employees, who have traditionally run and maintained the curriculum of this after-school program, to cease from their work in creating curriculum for the students and community of Monrovia Unified School District. This situation not only deprives our in-house staff of their jobs but also impacts the integrity of the program curriculum. It is known that classified employees in a school district play pivotal roles in providing a comprehensive, caring, and personal approach to after-school programs, which they have gotten through local training, understanding, and experience in dealing with Monrovia's specific student needs. Outsourcing the program breaks this crucial connection between staff and students. We therefore call on the MUSD to reverse their decision and restore duties of the classified staff to run the Village Extended School Program. Your signature can help put this important issue in the spotlight, and ensure the job rights of these important staff members are protected. Please, stand up for them and make a difference by signing this petition.
