We the undersigned are seeking immediate action by the UH System Administration to RESTORE the digital content, newsletter, and support of DEI initiatives and practices on all its campuses. 

UH System leadership chose a comparatively extreme and undemocratic response without consulting its departments, faculty, and students, to  two Executive Orders and the “dear colleague letter” issued by the Trump administration. Yet, nothing in the order or the guidance in the dear colleague letter demands the fear-based and radical response that the UH administration has taken. Furthermore, on Friday February 21, a federal judge blocked these sweeping Executive Orders that seek to end government support for programs promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is because the judge “found that the order likely carry constitutional violations, including free speech rights.”

Until last week, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion was a fundamental guiding principle of the UH System. This was included in its strategic plans at least from 1985, and the UH System, year after year, prides itself as having the most diverse campuses. Please sign this petition demanding UH restore all our content as it existed prior to February 14, 2025, and continue the commitment we hold to democracy, equity, diversity, and justice.
