Restore the Pension Plan for MARTA Police Officers Immediately

Restore the Pension Plan for MARTA Police Officers Immediately
The Issue
Our MARTA police officers devote their life to serve and protect us, risking everything for our safety every day. Since MARTA replaced the pension plan with lower benefits alternatives, I have observed a clear drop in patrol officers on our metros and buses. The lack of officers has caused the remaining few to bear an unrelenting workload, stretched to their limits but powerlessly continue to protect us under strenuous conditions.
This unacceptable situation has developed even as MARTA is channeling millions into the revamp of multiple rail stations and preparing for the arrival of new ones in anticipation of the World Cup 2026. Ensuring our transit system is robust should not only concern improving its physical infrastructure; it should prioritize the wellbeing of those who ensure our safety.
If financial resources can be found for renovations and expansions - why not for those who safeguard us on our everyday commute? To keep our transit system safe, we must retain experienced officers and incentivize new ones to join. A well-compensated, well-rested police force is a necessity, not a luxury.
Therefore, we urge MARTA to reestablish the pension plan for its police officers without delay. Reinforcing the officers' retirement security will not only provide them with the respect and dignity they deserve, but it will also improve officer retention rates and thereby our public safety. We need and appreciate our MARTA officers. They deserve security for their future. You can show your support for them, right now, by signing this petition.
