As a proud citizen of Great Britain, I am deeply saddened by the recent changes made to our iconic Union Jack. The flag, which has been a symbol of unity and national pride for centuries, was recently altered by designers for Team GB. They deemed its traditional red, white and blue colours as "not unique" and opted for a "diverse design system" that incorporates pink and purple hues along with squiggles resembling non-English script.

This new emblem now adorns the "Supporters Flags" being sold ahead of this year's Paris Olympics at £12 each in the Team GB shop. This change not only dilutes our national identity but also disrespects our history.

The Union Jack is more than just a flag; it represents our shared history, values, and aspirations as a nation. Its iconic design is recognised worldwide and should not be tampered with lightly or without broad public consensus.

Three Lions legend Peter Shilton expressed his disappointment saying “Nothing is sacred.” This sentiment resonates with many Britons who feel their cultural symbols are being unnecessarily altered.

We urge Team GB to reconsider their decision and restore the original design of the Union Jack on all official merchandise. Let us stand together under one flag that truly represents us all - unaltered, undiluted - in its glorious red, white and blue.
