The Issue

The Nativity Scene at the Chaves County Courthouse beautifully captures the true essence of Christmas, the birth of Jesus. This iconic display, featuring the angelic announcement to the shepherds, the humble manger, and the Holy Family of Mary and Joseph, provides a tangible connection to our faith. It sparks fond family memories and instills a sense of hope and joy that reflects the true meaning behind our holiday season.

This scene stands as more than just an artistic expression; it is a symbol of our collective cultural and spiritual roots. It unites us, reminding us of the principles upon which our community stands: love, hope, and unity. These are the very pillars that help us navigate an increasingly complex world, and its presence is important not only for those who hold these beliefs but also for anyone who values tradition and community.

Unfortunately, this year's Christmas will be lacking the warmth and significance of our Courthouse Nativity Scene due to its removal. While it's essential to honor the separation of church and state, we must also recognize and celebrate the cultural and historical significance of the Nativity Scene.

Research has shown that preserving cultural traditions enhances community spirit and engagement. According to a study by the National Endowment for the Arts, visual displays like the Nativity Scene can positively influence local cultural identity and enhance civic pride. By restoring this display, we send a strong message that we value and cherish our community's history and traditions.

Please join us in our mission to restore the Nativity Scene to the Chaves County Courthouse, ensuring future generations can experience the joy and connection it brings.
