Restore the Name: Atlanta Motor Speedway

Restore the Name: Atlanta Motor Speedway
The Issue
It's always been Atlanta Motor Speedway to us. When the current track was constructed in 1960, it was named Atlanta International Speedway, and later, in 1990, it was christened Atlanta Motor Speedway. This iconic name isn’t just a title—it symbolizes a rich tradition for racing fans from Hampton, GA, and beyond. The recent renaming to Echo Park Speedway in 2025 feels like stripping away a piece of our identity.
The new name, unfortunately, aligns only with a used car dealership and has no roots or significance tied to NASCAR or the racing community. It doesn’t evoke the nostalgic feelings and adrenaline-packed excitement that the name "Atlanta Motor Speedway" naturally conveys. For decades, countless families, including mine, have shared innumerable memories at what we've affectionately called Atlanta Motor Speedway. The original name has been a part of our family tradition, playing a significant role in bonding over thrilling races.
This name change threatens to dissolve the history and personal connections that have been built over generations. For those of us who have proudly boasted about this legendary venue, the name Echo Park Speedway feels alien, disconnected from racing's spirit. To us, it doesn't encapsulate the deep sense of pride and storied legacy that Atlanta Motor Speedway holds.
We urge the stakeholders to reconsider this decision and restore the beloved name that resonates with countless enthusiasts who have cherished and supported Atlanta Motor Speedway for years. Reverting to the name Atlanta Motor Speedway will honor the legacy, uphold the tradition, and continue inspiring future generations of racing fans in Hampton, GA. Support our cause to maintain a piece of racing history by signing this petition. Together, we can bring back the name that truly belongs to our speedway. (Plus it just sounds stupid to say.)
