Restore the Historic Title to Arkansas Highway 67

Restore the Historic Title to Arkansas Highway 67
The Issue
The Arkansas Department of Transportation and Governor Sarah Huckabee-Sanders recently announced that Interstate 167 will become I-57. This allows a chance to return 367 back to its original designation of 67. This would also help with simplicity when it comes to signs. Currently we have 67, 167, 267, and 367. Renaming 367 to 67 would leave us with the simple, yet effective 67, I57, and 267.
The historical and cultural significance of Highway 67 is not to be forgotten. Not only did it help solidify many artists career such as Conway Twitty, Sonny Burgess, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and B.B. King, it helped solidify Rock and Roll as a genre. Many tourists to this day from all over the world still travel to see many stops along the highway because of Elvis's legacy.
Throughout my life, Arkansas Highway 67, or as it is now known, Highway 367, has been a common thread woven into my family's history. My great-great grandfather was a classmate of Big Joe Lewis, the bassist for Conway Twitty, and even filled in for him during his tour along this very highway. Preserving the history of Highway 67 has been close to my heart, with a number of my personal preservation projects based around it.
Unfortunately, the legacy of this important route is threatened by a simple name change. Highway 67, a road of significant cultural relevance and local heritage, was redesignated to Highway 367, wiping away so much of this historic route's identity. An identity that is a part of me, the local community and importantly, the culture of Arkansas itself.
This highway has witnessed the evolution of Arkansas, accommodating countless travelers and fostering cultural change, while remaining an integral part of our shared memory. By restoring its original name, we give recognition not just to a stretch of asphalt, but to its historical importance and role as a symbol of resilience and cultural pride.
I implore all who hold Arkansas history dear, to lend your voices to restore this unique part of our cultural fabric. Sign this petition and let's return Arkansas Highway 67 to its rightful place in our collective hearts and minds.
