Restore the Fillies name and original horse logo for USD 257

Restore the Fillies name and original horse logo for USD 257
The Issue
When I was a student at USD 257 in Iola, Kansas, I proudly identified as a Fillie, even though I wasn’t part of the sports teams. The name was more than just a label; it was a cherished part of my identity and upbringing. My sister, who excelled in tennis, wore the Fillies name with pride and strengthened her bond with teammates as they carried the spirit of past generations on their shoulders. For so many of us—past, present, and future students, as well as dedicated fans—the Fillies name represents a legacy that we want to see revived.
The original horse logo from the 1970s, too, embodies a vibrant history that the community fondly remembers. It’s a symbol of tradition and community spirit that unified us all, igniting school pride and serving as a rallying point for many fulfilling experiences. Restoring this logo alongside the Fillies name will honor decades of athletic and educational history that we hold dear.
Bringing back the Fillies name and the iconic horse logo isn't just about nostalgia. It's about reinforcing a cherished identity that strengthens the Iola community's connection to its roots and fosters a sense of belonging. A strong identity builds school spirit, which in turn enriches the student experience and supports academic and athletic excellence.
We call upon the decision-makers of USD 257 to consider the deep sentimental and historical significance these symbols hold for so many in Iola. Restoring the Fillies name and the original horse logo would not just reconnect past students and alumni with their school heritage, but it would also offer current and future students something timeless and meaningful they can be proud of.
Please join us in advocating for this important change. Your signature can help ensure that the spirit, pride, and unity of the Fillies live on for generations to come. Sign the petition to bring back the Fillies name and the original horse logo to USD 257.
