A North Yorkshire Council public consultation,  about creating one licensing zone for taxis, resulted in 52% of people saying "NO". The decision went ahead but residents have seen few benefits.The impacts so far have been:

1. Congestion and over-supply in the bigger towns, (taxi drivers can now pick-up fares anywhere) but with limited parking on taxi stands
2. Difficulties in rural areas and villages, left with limited or no access to taxis
3. Disabled people being further disadvantaged as drivers are selling  wheelchair accessible vehicles, due to increased costs/reduced income.
4. More taxi drivers from outside districts not knowing the local area or the local people
5. Local taxi driver's businesses rendered worthless- some losing up to £30,000. 

North Yorkshire Council needs to reverse this policy and re-instate zones within the county to meet resident's needs and protect local taxi drivers jobs
