We, the fans of the Shrek franchise, are calling on DreamWorks to honor the legacy of our beloved ogre by restoring his original animation style for Shrek 5. The new cartoonish redesign feels out of place and disconnects us from the iconic world we grew up loving.

Shrek’s slightly realistic yet charmingly exaggerated look has been a staple of the series since 2001. This style not only set the tone for its witty, satirical humor but also created a unique and relatable fantasy world that audiences of all ages could enjoy. The drastic change to a more cartoonish style in Shrek 5 risks losing the magic and nostalgia that made the series a cultural phenomenon.

We believe that updating the animation quality is possible without compromising the design that fans recognize and love. Other DreamWorks films, like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, successfully modernized their visuals while maintaining stylistic consistency. Shrek 5 can do the same.

Fans Deserve a Say
In 2020, fans spoke up about Sonic’s controversial redesign in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, leading to a change that was widely praised. This shows the power of fan voices and the importance of staying true to beloved character designs. Just as Paramount listened to Sonic fans, we hope DreamWorks will listen to Shrek fans and respect the legacy of this iconic character.

We urge DreamWorks to listen to its dedicated fanbase and restore Shrek’s original look. Let’s bring back the Shrek we know and love!
