Petition to Restore North Bay Transit Schedule to Pre-COVID Normalcy

The residents of North Bay are deeply concerned about the current dynamic bus system implemented by North Bay Transit since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe that the existing system, which requires passengers to order buses from their phones after 7:30 PM, is plagued with issues and does not adequately cater to the needs of our community.

The dynamic bus system has proven to be a significant hurdle for many individuals, and particularly affects those relying on the buses to commute from the college after a long day. The current system imposes several challenges, including:

Inconvenience: The requirement to order buses via phone after 7:30 PM has introduced unnecessary complexity, causing delays and inconvenience for many passengers. This approach, combined with the limited seating capacity, has led to half-empty buses departing while numerous individuals, such as 180 college students, are left waiting for extended periods. Another challenge is some people in North Bay don't own phones so can't even catch a bus after a certain time.

Excessive Line-ups: The current system forces passengers to provide their name to the bus driver before boarding. Consequently, during peak hours, a huge line forms as each individual has to go through this process. This not only causes delays but also poses safety concerns, as overcrowding can occur while waiting in line. If you don't order the bus, you will be kicked off the bus even with valid bus pass syou paid for.

Another problem is some buses are cut in half, including the Junction. It is only one bus that goes all the way down Lakeshore so people down there have to wait a full hour to catch a bus. Since there is only one bus it makes it super packed on its way back and hard for even seniors to get down town while standing holding on to the poles.

Our Proposed Solution:

We urge North Bay Transit to reconsider the dynamic bus system and restore the pre-COVID schedule for the following reasons:

 

Restoring the previous schedule will ensure reliable and efficient transportation for all residents, particularly those who rely on public transit to commute from the college. With fixed departure times, passengers can plan their journeys accordingly, eliminating the need for last-minute phone orders.

By reverting to the pre-COVID schedule and eliminating the requirement to order buses from phones, individuals will no longer face extended wait times. This will enhance productivity and improve the overall commuter experience while reducing overcrowding concerns.
