Restore Public Access to the Marine 2nd Battalion Memorial in Chicago

Restore Public Access to the Marine 2nd Battalion Memorial in Chicago
The Issue
Grunt Style, a patriotic and veteran-operated apparel brand, along with several local veteran organizations are coming together to demand that the City of Chicago preserve and consider the relocation of a memorial honoring the distinguished 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment.
A press conference will take place on Friday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m.
Show your support by helping us reach our goal of 2,000 signatures!
Over 200 attendees are expected at the event including military veterans from the Chicago Police and Fire Department. In 2023, the City of Chicago acquired the property for $1.5 million to accommodate a temporary immigrant housing center and address the humanitarian crisis. As a result, restrictive fencing was built around the facility, preventing visitors from accessing the Marine Battalion memorial.
The memorial was created to honor the lives of 16 Marines who lost their lives engaging in significant combat operations during a 2004 deployment in Iraq. The creation of the 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment can be traced back to 1922. The unit was mobilized in 1940 to support pacific operations in WWII, in which they were awarded their first Presidential Unit citation, and activated again during the Korean War, Desert Storm, and the Global War on Terror.
These U.S. Marines fought valiantly for our freedoms. It is our duty to ensure their memory is not only preserved but celebrated by future generations.
Why Sign?
- Honor Their Sacrifice: These U.S. Marines fought for our freedoms; it's our duty to ensure their memory is not just preserved but celebrated for the next generation.
- Promote Accessibility: The memorial should be accessible to everyone, reminding us of the bravery and the cost of freedom. Demand that the City of Chicago provide access to the memorial in an accessible area.
- Support Veterans: Show your support for Chicago veterans and their families who find solace and pride in memorials that commemorate their heroes' service to our country.
Don't just stand by—stand up by signing the petition today and demand the city of Chicago provide access to the memorial in an accessible area. This is our moment to roar for those who can no longer speak, for the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We will not be silenced. We will not be sidelined. Our nation's heroes deserve better, and so does the veteran community. Join us, make noise, and let's make sure they hear us all the way to the gates they can't fence off. Help get us to 2,000 signatures.
Take action, restore public access and sign now to honor their valor!
