Restore practical daytime train service to Brisbane

The issue

I live in Northern New South Wales, and the lack of a practical train service has severely impacted my accessibility to Brisbane. The current situation is incredibly inconvenient and frustrating: the train leaves at 3 am, and the return is scheduled for 8 am, making it unusable for a daytime trip.

A usable train service would change everything. It would grant our community direct, low-stress access to essential resources like medical services, business and training opportunities, city amenities, and shopping. Not to mention, it would also enable convenient access to Brisbane's international airport. This would not only improve the quality of life for residents of Northern NSW but also potentially boost the local economy.

The need for a practical daytime train service is clear and urgent. We need a train schedule that aligns with the daily needs of commuters — one that departs at a reasonable hour in the morning and returns in the late afternoon or evening. This could be accomplished by working collaboratively with the relevant transport authorities to facilitate new scheduling that prioritizes the needs of residents.

Evidence from studies on transport accessibility shows that efficient train services can significantly enhance the social, economic, and environmental well-being of a region. Improved train connections would foster greater mobility and inclusiveness and reduce traffic congestion and emissions, supporting the transition to a greener community.

There is good reason to have a reciprocal daytime service to Northern NSW, also.  Access to the Giant Pumpkin and Watermelon festival, Beef Week, Kyogle Writers festival, Casino Truck Show and to access resources like the hard core extensive Moutain Biking Tracks, rural markets, World Heritage Hikes and the Rail Trail while enjoying the renowned Border Loop Railway, as well as rural economic benefits to be had.

I urge key stakeholders and policymakers to consider the long-term benefits of implementing a practical daytime train service between Northern NSW and Brisbane. Your action can make a tangible difference in our lives, and bring about positive change in our region.
