We are petitioning Community Board 2 to address the issue of the skateboarders on our block (Lafayette st. between Spring and Kenmare sts.).

The skaters have become a nuisance since the DOT designated our block an "open street" from 12 pm to 11p.m. every day, closing it to vehicular traffic.

The skateboarders are intimidating and hostile; degrade the block by leaving graffiti, open bottles and trash behind; make a lot of noise with the grinding and banging of their skateboards and wheels; render the space in front of our building dangerous to pedestrians, cyclists, pets and children and effectively make it unable to be enjoyed by residents or anyone else.

Having a "skatepark" — which is what it feels like during evenings weekends! — devalues and degrades the attractiveness of small businesses and living spaces in this historic and intimate neighborhood. 

Please sign this petition so the Community Board will come up with a resolution to get rid of the skaters.
