Restore Partridge Hill Road in Barneveld, NY

Restore Partridge Hill Road in Barneveld, NY
The Issue
The devastating washout that occurred in 2019 just below our property on Partridge Hill Road, Barneveld, NY, has had a significant impact not only on our lives but on our entire community. This road, once a picturesque and reliable route, has become treacherous and inaccessible for many due to negligence by the town of Russia. Their failure to address this pressing infrastructure issue has left residents and visitors alike deprived of safe passage.
For those not familiar with the area, Partridge Hill Road is more than just a thoroughfare. It’s a beautiful destination to leisurely walk, run and enjoy what nature has to offer. It connects communities and offers access to the beautiful West Canada Creek, renowned for its trophy fishing section. Without a safe and accessible road, many are deprived of enjoying these natural resources, and local businesses who benefit from tourism suffer.
This also creates an issue with local residents. Increased emergency response time, the possibility of our property washing into the West Canada, issues with electrical lines that are unable to be accessed by National Grid and a one way in one way out access that runs the risk of flooding anytime that we have a large rain.
Last year when we had the devastating tornado that swept through Clarks Mills, trees fell down in the road and blocked access for us to get out and we were stuck in our home for three days before emergency personnel were able to come here and help. If the road had been opened to the left of our home, the residents blocked in would’ve been granted access and my husband wouldn’t have had to run 3 miles to open up the local pharmacy.
The town of Russia's "hands-off" approach is unacceptable. Restoring Partridge Hill Road is not just a matter of convenience; it's a necessity for public safety and community well-being. The reluctance to act has left many residents in a state of perpetual inconvenience and potential risk.
We urge the town of Russia to take immediate and decisive action. Allocate funds, develop a concrete repair plan, and engage with local communities to ensure the restoration of Partridge Hill Road. Restoration not only benefits residents like myself, who are directly affected by erosion affecting our properties, but it also brings economic and recreational opportunities back to our town.
By signing this petition, you stand with us in demanding accountability and action. Let’s compel the town of Russia to prioritize this road restoration, ensuring safety, accessibility, and prosperity for all who use or rely on it. Join us in advocating for change and making our voices heard.
