We, the undersigned residents and concerned community members, call on Clark County Public Works and the Clark County Board of Commissioners to immediately review and correct a design flaw in the Starr Avenue and Gillespie Street road improvement project that has severely impacted access to our Liberty community.

The Problem

The newly installed raised median on Starr Avenue — part of the road improvement project spanning Las Vegas Boulevard to Bermuda Road — has completely eliminated direct vehicle access from I-15 to a residential community of approximately 150 homes along Steelhead Run Street.

As a result, drivers attempting to enter the neighborhood from the westbound lanes of E Starr Ave are forced to make illegal U-turns at Fairfield Ave or Bermuda Road. Otherwise, drivers are required to detour and make additional unprotected left turns to enter our community through a neighboring entrance on Bermuda Road.

This situation puts everyone at risk:

• Illegal U-turns at uncontrolled intersections create dangerous conflicts with oncoming traffic
  Increased cut-through traffic within the community endangers residents, children, and pedestrians
• Reduced entry and exit options could significantly delay first responder access in an emergency
  This is not a minor inconvenience — it is a public safety hazard affecting hundreds of vehicle trips every single day.

What We Are Asking For

We urge Clark County to direct its traffic engineers to evaluate and implement one or both of the following remedies immediately:

• Add a protected left turn lane on Starr Avenue at Steelhead Run Street
• Remove the raised median on Starr Avenue near Steelhead Run Street and replace it with a center two-way left turn lane
