As someone who works nights, I used to rely on Meijer, one of Michigan's largest retailers, being open 24 hours. Recently due to Covid, this service has been discontinued, with the store closing at midnight. This change has disrupted the lives of many like me who depend on Meijer's round-the-clock availability for our shopping needs.

The importance and convenience of 24/7 grocery stores cannot be understated. Night shift employees, including healthcare workers, emergency personnel, and hundreds of other professionals, rely on these extended hours to fit shopping into their unique schedules. An estimated 15 million Americans work the night shift according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In addition, these 24-hour services have been a significant asset during disaster response, as seen during the Flint Water Crisis, when 24-hour Meijer stores provided water and other supplies at any hour to those in dire need.

This petition is not about asking for a special privilege; it's about restoring a convenience that was invaluable for the night shift workers and people who need assistance during dire times. Therefore, I call upon the management of Meijer to reinstate the 24-hour operations for those of us who rely on that schedule.
