Restore Junagarh Fort’s Original Heritage Form

Restore Junagarh Fort’s Original Heritage Form
The Issue
Junagarh Fort is not just a monument; it is a living symbol of Bikaner’s history, identity, and collective memory. Built in red sandstone and crowned with white marble elements, the fort’s original texture and appearance are part of its heritage value.
The current pink repainting and acrylic-like finish have altered the fort’s authentic visual character and have diminished the heritage feel that generations have associated with it.
We, the citizens of Bikaner and well-wishers of this historic fort, are deeply concerned that recent repainting has altered its authentic look. The pink coating and acrylic white finish have removed the natural character of the structure and weakened the emotional connection that local people have with this landmark.
As citizens, we are not the legal owners, but we are key stakeholders in the heritage of our city. This fort belongs to our shared cultural memory, our public sentiment, and our future generations, and any major visual or conservation change should respect that responsibility.
We request the authorities/ trust to:
- Halt any further non-historic repainting or surface alteration.
- Conduct a scientific heritage conservation review.
- Restore the fort’s exterior to its historically authentic form and texture.
- Ensure future maintenance follows approved conservation principles.
- Involve local stakeholders in any decision affecting this landmark.
This is a plea to preserve authenticity, dignity, and heritage, not merely a complaint about the improper choice of colour. Junagarh Fort deserves careful conservation, not careless alteration.
Please sign this petition to restore Junagarh Fort to its original form and protect Bikaner’s heritage for generations to come.
