Restore Gun Rights for Non-Violent Felons

The Issue

I believe, as many do, that all individuals have a God-given right to self-defense. This includes those who have made mistakes in their past and have been labeled as felons. It is an undeniable fact that people err, but should they be punished for the rest of their lives? The current legislation strips non-violent felons of their gun rights, which I view as unconstitutional.

This law not only infringes upon an individual's right to self-preservation but also makes them vulnerable targets with no means of protection. The government must be held accountable for the harm and fatalities caused by this law among non-violent felons.

According to a study published by the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, there is no significant statistical correlation between crime rates and felon disenfranchisement (Manza & Uggen, 2006). Therefore, it is unjustifiable to continue punishing these individuals by denying them their constitutional rights.

We are calling on lawmakers to reevaluate this policy and restore gun rights for non-violent felons. Their past mistakes should not condemn them to a life devoid of basic human rights - including the right to protect themselves.

Please sign this petition if you believe in second chances and upholding constitutional rights for all citizens regardless of their pasts.
