The Issue

We, the undersigned parents, students, and alumni of the University of Oklahoma, are deeply concerned about the recent restrictions placed on Greek Life under the new leadership of Fraternity & Sorority Programs.

These restrictions have significantly reduced opportunities for social activities, networking, and community-building — the very pillars of the Greek Life experience. Students are questioning why they are paying dues to organizations that are unable to fulfill their purpose. Parents are frustrated that their children’s college experience is being unnecessarily limited.

Greek Life at OU has long been a cornerstone of leadership, philanthropy, and lifelong friendships. By restricting nearly all social interactions, the University is stripping away an experience that fosters personal growth, unity, and tradition.

We respectfully request that OU Greek Life leadership:

  1. Reconsider and revise the current restrictions on social activities.
  2. Engage in open dialogue with student leaders, parents, and alumni before implementing broad policies.
  3. Provide transparency around the reasons for these changes and how they benefit student development.

We believe that Greek Life can and should thrive in a safe, responsible, and balanced way. We call on the University of Oklahoma to work with students and families, not against them, to preserve the traditions and community that make OU Greek Life special.

Together, let’s restore the full Greek Life experience at OU.
