Restore graduation ceremonies to pre-covid standards in Hillsborough County
The Issue
As a mom of an upcoming senior, I know firsthand the monumental significance of a graduation ceremony. This milestone represents years of hard work and dedication, not just from the students, but from their families too. Countless families, like mine, have supported their children through their educational journey, and graduation day is the long-awaited celebration of these efforts.
Unfortunately, recent changes to the graduation ceremony format have sparked concern and disappointment within our community. The venue has been relocated to the fairgrounds, a move that many of us believe was a mistake. Not only is this location less prestigious than the USF Sundome, but it also imposes unnecessary costs on families who already shoulder significant expenses throughout their child’s high school experience. Having to pay for parking just to attend such a meaningful event is simply unjust.
Moreover, the restriction of only 10 tickets per graduate is unreasonable, especially for those with large families eager to support and honor their graduate. Graduation ceremonies should be a time of unbridled celebration and unity, where every supportive relative and friend can be present to offer their congratulations and encouragement.
We propose restoring graduation ceremonies to their pre-COVID standards by returning the venue to the USF Sundome and removing the ticket limit per graduate. The Sundome offers sufficient capacity to accommodate larger audiences, thus ensuring that all who wish to attend can do so.
Restoring these traditions is not only about honoring the achievements of our children but also about preserving the sense of community and support that is vital during such celebrations. Let's ensure our graduates feel cherished and celebrated to the fullest extent.
Please join us in advocating for our students and their families by signing this petition. Together, we can bring back the joyous graduations our kids deserve.
