The Issue

With the increasing cost of living for the younger generation, the beaches that were once free to use are now demanding visitors pay for parking to simply enjoy nature. This change imposes an unjust financial burden on residents and visitors who cherish our beautiful beaches. The municipality has been increasing property taxes, and those funds should be used to maintain our public parks and beaches, negating the need to charge for parking.

For decades, the beaches in the Niagara region have been a source of joy, relaxation, and community for local families and tourists alike. They have provided a vital oasis, allowing people to connect with nature and take a break from the stresses of daily life. Access to this public space should be a right, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford parking fees.

Evidence shows that high parking fees deter families from visiting local beaches, especially during times of financial difficulty. This change not only affects our leisure time but also impacts local businesses that rely on beachgoers for their livelihood. According to surveys, local restaurants and shops have reported a downturn in business since the implementation of the parking fees.

We call on local MPs to prioritize the use of existing tax revenues to cover the costs of beach maintenance and abolish these unnecessary parking fees. By doing so, the Niagara region can continue to be a welcoming place for all, bolstering both community well-being and local economic stability.

Sign this petition to urge the Niagara region's local government to eliminate beach parking fees and restore equitable access to our cherished natural spaces. Together, we can ensure that everyone has the chance to enjoy the beauty of the Niagara beaches without financial barriers. Let's make a stand for our community and keep our public beaches accessible for everyone!
