Restore Free Parking at Ventura Harbor

Restore Free Parking at Ventura Harbor
The Issue
Living in the county and frequently visiting Ventura Harbor for walking, surfing, and recreation, I've seen firsthand how important this area is to our community. The decision to implement pay machines for parking has felt like a sudden blow, not only to frequent visitors like myself but also to the businesses that rely on regular foot traffic.
For years, Ventura Harbor has been a sanctuary for locals, providing a free and accessible way to enjoy the stunning Southern California coastline. Unlike other places that have increasingly commercialized their waterfronts, Ventura has always been about community and shared space.
The introduction of paid parking disrupts this harmonious balance. Many local businesses, from quaint cafes to specialty shops, thrive because of the ease with which residents and tourists can visit without the burden of parking fees. Imposing charges can deter visitors, potentially devastating these businesses.
According to research, accessibility is key to supporting local economies, especially in tourist-friendly places like Ventura. Studies consistently show that free or inexpensive parking is a major factor in drawing visitors to local attractions.
By restoring free parking, the city can continue to support its local economy, maintain the harbor's reputation as an inviting place for both residents and tourists, and ensure that this cherished spot remains a hub of community activity.
Sign the petition to urge city officials to reconsider their decision and prioritize community welfare and business sustainability. Ventura Harbor should remain a welcoming, accessible part of our community for all to enjoy without additional cost. I would also like to give special thanks to Spencer Noren, and others for bringing attention to this issue.
