Restore Exclusive Video Rights for Cherished Student-Run Saint Ignatius Broadcast Network

Restore Exclusive Video Rights for Cherished Student-Run Saint Ignatius Broadcast Network
The Issue
The Saint Ignatius Administration has recently signed an agreement with an adult-run sports broadcasting network, FanVu, to cover Saint Ignatius football games, stripping video rights from the long-cherished student-run Saint Ignatius Broadcasting Network. This agreement benefits administration, since they will be receiving money from FanVu in this contract. The Saint Ignatius Broadcast Network has been loyal to Saint Ignatius Athletics since its conception in 2009. In its tenure, the Network has broadcasted over 1,000 St Ignatius events. In 2023, the network was awarded Best Media Mind by The Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com for their professionalism and dedication to their craft. With that being said, the hiring of FanVu is profoundly disappointing and undermines the countless hours of time, work, and preparation that numerous students put on top of their schoolwork. Students allot over 20 hours of unpaid work per week to bring Wildcat Football to viewers, including but not limited to meetings, game prep, commute time, actual broadcasting, editing photos, writing articles, and so much more. It even strips away a job from a dedicated broadcast crew member. Our video operator, who has worked tirelessly to be a part of the varsity football crew, has had his job taken by grown adults. We ask that you, the Wildcat faithful, and our loved supporters, help us restore our place as the audio and video Home of Wildcat Football.
Humbly,
The Saint Ignatius Broadcasting Network Football Crew
Update 9/4/24 -
Thank you to everybody who has signed and supported our petition so far. It's truly unbelievable to all of us on the SIBN Football crew that we have so much support from our community on Day 1. Sadly, we met with school administration, and they confirmed that FanVu will be broadcasting all home football games this year with video. But, we still need support from our community. Keep sharing, keep supporting, keep fighting, and help us get our full rights back.
Thank you,
SIBN
