As a community, we witnessed first-hand the profound impact the DLI (dual language instruction) program provided our children at Westwood Elementary.
This beloved program stirred my child's curiosity for learning while embodying Dalton Public Schools' vision for a world-class education that prepares students for success in college, career, and civic life.
50% instruction in Spanish and 50% in English was a key component in fostering this progressive environment. However, the current dilution of this program has been detrimental to our children's Spanish language skills acquisition and advancements. To reignite the beneficial educational experiences the importance of reverting back to the original format is dire.
Dual language instruction at Westwood Elementary will assure our children opportunities for global citizenship that foster empathy and enhance their cognitive development. Students, parents, and teachers alike strongly desire restoration of this transformative program.
Let's urge Dalton Public Schools to uphold their vision of world-class opportunities for our children and legitimize the dual-language program at Westwood Elementary.
Please sign this petition to promote bilingualism and multiply the opportunities among our young learners for all our futures'.
*Studies show that balanced bilinguals often exhibit advanced cognitive flexibility and superior problem-solving abilities compared to monolingual peers (Goldenberg, 2013).
- Restaurar la Instrucción Dúo Lenguaje
Nuestra comunidad pide que por favor firme esta petición para restaurar el programa de Instrucción Dúo Lenguaje (DLI) en Westwood Elementary. Actualmente el programa ha sido minimizado del formato previo 50% instrucción en español y 50% en inglés. Padres, maestros y estudiantes al igual exigimos y queremos que regrese a su estatus original.
La instrucción de DLI cautiva la enseñanza y curiosidad por el aprendizaje en español para nuestros pequeños estudiantes. El programa también enriquece las experiencias en grupo creando empatía y desarrollo intelectual. La visión de nuestro distrito dice preparar estudiantes para aprendizaje de primera categoría y así éxito para la universidad, sus carreras y la vida civil. Sigamos esa creencia y restablezcamos el DLI en Westwood Elementary para proveer oportunidades para los futuros de nuestros alumnos.
