Today Key West City Manager McLaughlin announced that the City had engaged surveyor Reece and White Land Surveying based in Big Pine Key to carry out the riprarian line survey/mean high water line for the Dinghy Beach/Marriott Beachside property dispute. McLaughlin had promised last month that she would get three out-of-Keys (mainland) surveyor estimates, but lied and did a half-butt job and asked three local surveyors - Reese, Avirom and O'Flynn instead. O'Flynn did not respond to the inquiry.
When asked about the beach survey, Avirom had originally offered up an unqualified legal opinion wanting to give Robert Spottswood the beach and then suggested a survey wasn't necessary because one could just give up a portion of the beach to appease Spottswood. A representative of Reece stated "we do A LOT of business with Spottswood", but assured Reece would not compromise their professional ethics to appease Spottswood, leaving concerned parties with a sense of the City's impropriety and possible corruption until approximately one month from now when the survey results are in and a potential "Bubba" situation is proven wrong (or right).
When Mayor Johnston was confronted with criticism concerning both McLaughlin's refusal to secure an off-island surveyor and follow through on better communications concerning the issue, the Mayor refused request for brief discussion, has not responded to Thursday's email requesting comment and refused to address the issue at all on Friday morning, walking past the protest in front of City Hall without a word on the issue, ignoring real action in the matter as has been done these past 800 days since the illegal, unpermitted fence was first reported to the City.
800 days today. 800 days of in-action, stalling, gas-lighting and lies by the City of Key West for the benefit of one entitled, greedy man...
