Dear all 124,088 of you,
Will you take a moment to write a message of thanks to staff working to support refugees and asylum seekers? Please email it to cartoonsnotcruelty@gmail.com
It can be a drawing, an email, anything you like.
This week saw a wave of violence on our streets. Safety concerns for those working with refugees forced some charities to close - or pause their activities. An organisation in Sunderland had attempted to go ahead with an event for children but concerned families had stayed away. Of the 20 children registered for the event, only one turned up.
Part of the power of our campaign has been people taking a stand - and delivering strength in the face of cruelty. And we can do that now.
Together we have created beautiful drawings of welcome for refugees that we’ll continue to share widely in our communities. And now we’re asking you to write a small message of support to those doing critical work which could help offer a little strength after what has been a horrific week.
No-one should face security fears for doing their job. These staff dedicate their time to helping the most vulnerable in society - including children within the asylum intake centres that our campaign is focussed on.
We will send your messages to organisations across the UK - and on our social media to demonstrate your support. Please note we may include your first name (unless you tell us not to).
Let’s show them that we care. And that we are behind their work.
Thank you as always for your support.
x
P.S. I realise it has been a while since I last wrote to you about the campaign. Since then, we have a new government - and a new decision maker Yvette Cooper who can help to set things right. That’s why we’re pivoting our petition towards them and hope they will work with us to restore cartoon murals in asylum centres.
