This petition could be included in a PCC Lottery Bid application! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Canoe Lake in Southsea has long been cherished as a serene and welcoming community space. However, it's time to restore it to its intended purpose, ensuring that everyone in our diverse community can enjoy it safely and peacefully.

First and foremost, we envision Canoe Lake as a haven for everyone, especially our children. By reintroducing fenced play areas, we can provide a secure environment where children can play freely, away from any potential hazards. This safety measure would bolster the appeal of the lake for families, making it a prime destination for wholesome outdoor recreation.

Equally important is the need to accommodate our elderly, disabled, and sight-impaired community members. We propose creating designated walking paths and seating areas that offer both safety and comfort. These enhancements would promote inclusivity, allowing everyone to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the lake.

We also propose fenced areas and paths specifically for owners to walk and enjoy their dogs in a safe natural environment.

Furthermore, Canoe Lake has become a sanctuary for swans, who have chosen its waters as their home. It's crucial that we protect this natural habitat, acknowledging the presence and importance of these majestic creatures.

By restricting and providing specific areas for limited BBQ use, (governed by PCC) , we can preserve the health and cleanliness of the lake environment. Using forestry examples of book and leave clean? priority for Leisure card users?  An onsite Community BBQ run by appointed Chefs, serving affordable food whilst educating us all on the safety of cooking raw food on a BBQ ?Numerous possibilities to bring about safe change for the good of all.

Supporting local businesses goes hand in hand with the lake's revitalization. We encourage visitors to patronize the three nearby cafes, which offer a variety of hot food and beverages. This move would not only benefit local entrepreneurs but also enhance the park's community-friendly atmosphere.

Lastly, the introduction of wardens or park keepers would monitor activities in the area, ensuring that the lake remains safe, clean, and accessible to all. Their presence would deter inappropriate behavior and provide assistance when needed, reinforcing a sense of security.

Sign this petition to urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action in revitalizing Canoe Lake Southsea, restoring it as a safe, inclusive, and cherished community space. Together, we can honor its legacy and ensure it serves the needs of present and future generations.

From my understanding, Victoria Park has been re generated over a period of four years. With fantastic results. The finance for this was from a 2.4 million lottery fund.

I think Canoe lake deserves the same chance to bloom again, for our use and many generations to come.
