This is a humble public appeal to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, the Higher Education Department, and the authorities of Suravaram Pratap Reddy Telugu University to restore discontinued Astrology programs and recruit faculty immediately.

Why This Matters
Suravaram Pratap Reddy Telugu University, Hyderabad (formerly Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University) is a prestigious public university established to protect and promote Telugu language, culture, and Bharatiya knowledge systems.

Until 2018–19, the university successfully offered:

M.A. Astrology (Distance Education)
Ph.D. in Astrology and related disciplines
Every year, more than 200 students from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and other southern states enrolled in these programs. The courses were recognized, Telugu‑medium, affordable, and academically structured making them unique in South India.

However, these courses were stopped abruptly, not due to lack of demand, but mainly because:

Senior faculty and Heads of Departments retired
No new faculty recruitment was done for many years
As a result, thousands of genuine astrology aspirants are now left without any university‑level, Telugu‑medium platform to study this classical discipline. 
Why Astrology Deserves University Status
Astrology (Jyotisha) is one of the six Vedangas and a core component of India’s ancient knowledge tradition. It is deeply connected to:

Astronomy & mathematics
Philosophy & ethics
Social guidance and mental well‑being

For centuries, this knowledge has:

Guided individuals with hope, courage, and clarity
Helped people live positive and disciplined lives
Preserved the roots of Vedic Bharatiya civilization

Teaching Astrology inside a public university, especially in Telugu, ensures:

Academic authenticity
Cultural dignity
Regulation and responsibility
Inter‑generational transmission of heritage
If universities do not preserve such subjects, our traditions risk fading away.

India’s National Education Policy (NEP‑2020) promotes Indian Knowledge Systems
Telugu‑medium education is declining
Faculty vacancies are affecting multiple departments
This issue is academic, cultural, and societal, not political.

✅ Restart Ph.D. programs in Astrology
✅ Form an expert academic committee including traditional scholars
✅ Publish a clear timeline and roadmap for admissions
