Restore and Protect the Heritage Fallen Trees @Sherwood Estate, India
The Issue
Hello, We are reaching out to you with regards to supporting this cause with your e support towards helping us Restore, Preserve and protect one heritage fallen Peepal tree intertwined with other tree. These trees(intertwined) had fallen once earlier in 2020 during the severe storm named Amphan. This tree had then been restored with the assistance of cranes. Now recently on April 6, 2026 there was a storm again, in which the tree has fallen bend down. Coincidentally on both the occasions the tree has fallen without causing any casualty or harm to anyone. This tree is very old and was here from even before the project started way back, with its age at least around 20+years, and even more.
Now, from this residential society many of us wish to safely restore this tree and also build a strong protective boundary against the tree to avoid it from a future fall, we have consulted various enviornmental and tree experts, in the period interim- many of whom have reviewed the photos, videos online as well in person and adviced that the tree has strong chance of survival and should not be chopped and allowed to be restored. We have received proposal from Horticulturalists as well wrt how to conduct the restoration project and cost. To that extent we have also received guidance from District Forest Department (who needs to be consulted before any tree trimming activity as well for such trees) that we can decide to restore the tree if we wish to among other points.
This tree has great ecological environmental and spiritual significance. It has even been growing while lying horizontal over the past 3 months & nearing 4 now, we request you to share your voice and support the safe restoration and protection of this tree.

The Peepal tree significantly benefits the environment by sequestering substantial carbon, acting as a highly efficient air filter for pollutants like sulfur dioxide, and preventing soil erosion through its deep roots. It is also a keystone species that provides vital habitats for urban biodiversity. Specific environmental and ecological impacts include:
1.Massive Oxygen Production: The Peepal tree has a large leaf surface area and is known for producing high amounts of oxygen. It utilizes Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM), allowing it to release oxygen at night, which is uncommon for most large shade trees.
2.Carbon Sequestration: Mature trees are highly effective at combating climate change, with studies estimating they sequester between 20--25 kg of CO₂ annually, offering major lifetime storage over centuries.
3.Air Purification: The large canopy traps significant amounts of particulate matter, filtering out common airborne urban pollutants.
4.Urban Cooling: The dense foliage provides heavy shade, reducing localized ambient surface temperatures and preventing moisture evaporation.
5.Biodiversity Support: As a keystone species, it sustains a wide variety of birds, insects, and mammals by providing food (figs and leaves) and shelter year-round, making it a critical tree for ecological restoration.
