The St Mungo mural by Smug has become a huge part of Glasgow’s identity and one of the city’s most recognisable pieces of street art. Since it was painted in 2016, it has attracted visitors from all over the world, with an image of the mural being shared around 1.5 million times in its first week alone. It’s now one of the most photographed murals in Glasgow and a regular stop for people exploring the city and the Mural Trail.

Unfortunately, after years of exposure to the Scottish weather and general wear and tear, the mural is showing its age and has been allowed to deteriorate. This isn’t just a bit of paint on a wall — it’s a piece of Glasgow’s modern cultural identity, right beside the Cathedral and in the heart of the city’s historic High Street. We’re asking for the mural to be properly restored and protected so that locals and visitors can continue enjoying it for many years to come. Glasgow has something genuinely special here, and it’s worth looking after.

The aim of this petition is to prompt and urge the council to evaluate and survey the site. Come up with a plan of repairs to regenerate / restore the mural and provide a proper plan of protection.
