The Issue

Growing up, I was captivated by stories of the pristine waters and bountiful fish at the lake located at 38.48272° N, 81.91699° W. I heard tales of families coming together to enjoy weekends filled with fishing, kayaking, and swimming in this natural haven. The lake was a gem of outdoor recreation well into the 1990s, until various developments, and unfortunately events like 9/11, contributed to its fall from grace. Now, the lake stands as a mere shadow of its former self, neglected and inaccessible to the public who once cherished it.

This isn't just my dream. I know countless others have longed for the day when this lake could once again be enjoyed by all. It's not just about nostalgia. The reopening of this lake as a public space would nurture community spirit, bring people closer to nature, and perhaps best of all, allow a new generation to create cherished memories of their own.

To achieve this, we need robust, clear regulations aimed at preserving its natural beauty and ensuring it remains a clean and orderly environment for everyone. Key measures should include mandatory clean-up rules, where visitors are required to pick up their own trash to maintain the site's pristine condition. Further, creating designated areas for swimming, kayaking, and fishing will help in organizing the usage around the lake so everyone can enjoy it responsibly.

Bringing this dream to life requires immediate action, and every signature can help demonstrate to local authorities the unwavering public interest in accessing and preserving this lake. Together, we can revive its legacy as a community treasure and ensure its beauty and recreational opportunities are protected for generations to come.

Sign this petition if you believe in the power of community and nature and want to see this lake restored to its former glory. Let's make it fishable and accessible once more!
