The Issue

The League of Friends of the Tyrrell Hospital are campaigning to restore a 7 day a week, nurse led Minor Injuries Unit. This is the level of service we had pre COVID open 10-6 every day. COVID meant that the unit closed and the nurses were redeployed to the District Hospital.  Post COVID we struggled to get any provision back and instead Ilfracombe has had a series of temporary, paramedic led contracts, now only offering a weekend service. The service is unstable with the current contract ending in March.  We need a unit that is nurse led so that they can offer the full range of minor injuries treatments and we need a 7 day a week service to deal with the needs of residents and the large influx of visitors we get every year. A fully functioning Minor Injuries service will also reduce the pressure on North Devon District Hospital Accident and Emergency Department.
