Restoration of fairness & justice is based on International & not be deprived from anyone
The Issue
I was fortunate to be one of the many students who benefited from Dr. Tareq Al-Suwaidan's academic contributions. Thousands of others, both in Kuwait and around the world, have also been positively impacted by his work as an Islamic scholar, author, educator, and public speaker. Dr. Al-Suwaidan, who is internationally respected for his scholarly work in religion, history, and interfaith dialogue, was unjustly stripped of his Kuwaiti citizenship by decree in July 2025, even though he has committed no crime.
This arbitrary revocation of citizenship without due process is not just a violation of the rights of one individual, but a threat to the principles of justice and the rule of law that protect each one of us. Citizenship is more than just a piece of paper; it is a fundamental right that provides individuals with legal protection, identity, and belonging. Such actions not only undermine the human rights of Dr. Al-Suwaidan, but also set a dangerous precedent for others in Kuwait and around the world.
International laws and conventions clearly state that no individual should be subjected to arbitrary deprivation of nationality. Without citizenship, people are stripped of their rights, made stateless, and left in legal limbo without protection or recourse. This dire situation affects Dr. Al-Suwaidan and anyone who could face similar treatment.
The international community has often recognized Dr. Al-Suwaidan's positive contributions, including being named among The 500 Most Influential Muslims for three consecutive years: 2022, 2023, and 2024. His work in interfaith dialogue and the promotion of a peaceful understanding of Islam stands as a testament to his commitment to harmony and education.
We call upon the Kuwaiti government to restore Dr. Tareq Al-Suwaidan's citizenship without delay. Let us stand together in urging our leaders to uphold the principles of justice, the rule of law, and human rights. Sign this petition to demand the immediate re-instatement of Dr. Al-Suwaidan's Kuwaiti citizenship and to ensure such injustices do not occur in the future, for the sake of our shared human rights and dignity.
