Restart recycling in Shreveport

Restart recycling in Shreveport
The Issue
Why should we recycle? Recycling is crucial to prevent waste and create a healthier planet for us and future generations. Studies show that 70% - 80% of household trash can be recycled, which reduces the amount of waste going into landfills and helps sustain our environment for future generations. Recycling helps protect our oceans. Approximately 8 million tons of plastic waste enters the oceans every single year. Recycling also helps create new products from old materials. By doing this, we save natural resources and energy. Recycling also helps create jobs. A study in 2016 found that recycling and reuse activities in the United States accounted for 757,000 jobs.
Shreveport began its recycling program in 2011 and only continued it for nine years, as it ended in 2020. Many people were upset about that and have tried to find solutions. However, these could have been more fruitful.
If we get Shreveport involved in recycling, it will positively change the environment for current and future generations. Therefore, we created this petition to restart recycling in Shreveport, which we will submit to the mayor. Please support by signing the petition! Together, we'll make Shreveport a greener city, a better place to live.
