Resist Implementation of Bible Education in Public Schools

Resist Implementation of Bible Education in Public Schools

The Issue

As someone deeply concerned about the inclusivity and secular nature of our public education system, I implore you to consider the deep implications of introducing a Bible education program into our public schools. Public school exists to educate and broaden the minds of our children, to prepare them for the diverse world that awaits them - not to serve as a medium for religious indoctrination.

Bible education programs, while potentially beneficial in private religious schools or institutions, threaten to disrupt the principle of separation of church and state that forms the bedrock of our democracy. In a country where religious adherence varies widely, introducing a Christian-centric educational program runs the risk of alienating students of different faith backgrounds. In fact, a survey from Pew Research Center indicates that as of 2019, the U.S has 64% Christian, but also includes 20% who associate with no religion and 16% from non-Christian faiths (Pew Research Center, 2019).

We must ensure that all students, regardless of their religious orientation, feel included, respected, and equally educated in the public school environment. If religious education needs to be included in the curriculum, it should be in a comparative religion course that introduces students to the various religions of the world, fostering understanding and promoting coexistence rather than emphasizing a specific doctrine.

Let's stand together for an unbiased, inclusive, and secular education system. This is not about denying or discrediting any individual faith, but about preserving the integrity of our public education. Please sign this petition to oppose the introduction of Bible education programs in public schools.
