How this  got  on  1st  Ave  and  corner   of   Longfellow, you must go    back    to   the  start  . It  started   at   the    Edwardsville   City  Plan Commission   which    heard  the   request    of  Skelly  Oil Company (Skelgas). for a   variation to   store a  total of 60,000gallons of  flammable material on 1 lot   on    1st  avenue  and  corner   of  Longfellow.. On August 24,1967 The    city    council  ,  Alderman  Abert   made a    motion      seconded  by  Alderman Kreiuter to  approve 60,000 gallons   of  flammable material placed  on   1st  Avenue  and  Longfellow. they  would   have  someone    in   the   office6days a week   when   Skelgas owned  it.   after  that it  went  to  Ferrellgas and   noone  worked   in    the   office. as  in    the   1960's.  Now   noone  works  there   office    is closed  so   is    the  garage but  has  empty  tanks    along   with    the   big  baby  blue   tank. Skelgas changed  hands  to   Ferrellgas. There  are still   tanks  close  to   to   the   fence  which   need     to be  removed  as  with   the    big tank ..After Praxair  explosion  in  St. Louis. I took   out   petitions    to  get    these tanks  removed . I  also  came before  the  city  council  and   Mayor Patton  and   gave  them  he   petition and addressed   them  asking   that   these  tanks   need  to  be  remove no  action  was  taken. I checked with  the   Madison County Recorders Office, and they  said.   That rated as Industrial vacant land. The   tax bill goes    to  new skelgas@ferrellgas 1 Liberty  Missouri. Here  is    the  Codified  ordinance  that   the   City  of  Edwardsville  has   on  the  books..210 1st Avenue in  Edwardsville ,IL has 672 square feet. They     pay in   taxes $471.64 in 2020; That   came   from   the     Madison   County  Treasurers  Office. In 1960 the      population      in    herein    Edwardsville  was 9,996. Also      the    city   granted  them  a  variance in 1967 at   210   1 st   Avenue.   After  all      these    years     that   should   be   reviewed since  1967   The Zoning Ordinance Section 9.1-2.1 states "Fuel sales with storage of fuel ,oil, gasoline and     oher fammable material limited to 120,000 gallons per tank with  total   storage    on a   zoning lot not   to  exceed 50,000 gallons"

Sec. 74-89. - Storage of gasoline, etc., above ground prohibited.

No person shall construct general storage tanks above ground for the storage of gasoline, kerosene and other inflammable and explosive substances within the city.

No person shall store gasoline, kerosene or other inflammable and explosive substances in any general storage tank constructed above ground within the city.

Residents   of    western  side  of   LeClaire  and   Mahler Heights. Since     the    1960's   on   the   corner    of   1st Avenue and    Longfellow  has  had    a    propane    implement       place.   In   the    1967it was   busy    the   office   open   and   working   out    of  there.  Now      the  office   is    closed    the  garage   no one  works  out    of  and   the big baby  blue tank  has    over     60,000 gallons    of   propane.   Also    there  are  empty  tanks   which  are   worse    that  full    tank There     is  a    ordinance   which  was    passed    in     1939     ordinance  668 . All above  ground  tanks    in    the   city   are    prohibited  .  Gasoline    or  kerosene   or  any  flammable  are  prohibited.. !I am asking  all    residents    to   sign    this   petition    to    put   pressure   on   the      City  and     the     council to remove   it.   Let   me    explain   if   this          goes   then   there  will    be no   south  end    of   the   city    of Edwardsville and   the     current   administration    needs    to   be   held  accountable . To  all     the  residents   in  LeClaire  and    all  the  way  to   5th avenue it   is    something   you ask   to    get rid   of  so  . Residents  of  this    area  and    Edwardsville   please sign   this   petition      to    make  the    City   remove   the tanks for good.and  resind   the     variance   they   gave    them    in   1967.
