Cambrian For All

The Issue

Cambrian Park is currently unaffordable for most younger adults, working and middle class people. A shortage of housing here results in high rents and home costs.  Rents for even a small apartment are over $2000 per month.  Most houses sell for over $1 million.

Affirmed Housing is proposing an attractive mid-rise building on Bascom and Camden Avenues that will provide affordable housing for hundreds of single persons and families.  This will include middle and working class folks such as teachers, nurses, police officers, firefighters, retail and service workers.  It will also allow working class residents who are currently with housing to move into a decent apartment.  More affordable housing projects like this will result in overall rents in Cambrian decreasing which will allow younger adults and working class people to live here.

We are in favor of the Affirmed Housing project and future affordable housing projects that will make our community more open, welcoming, and diverse for everyone:  not just older residents who bought their houses years ago and wealthy tech workers.  We envision a Cambrian neighborhood that is diverse in race, culture, and socioeconomic background.  We need more affordable housing and attractive new development of retail, entertainment, and service projects to make this happen.

We are in favor of a Cambrian for All.
