On December 5th, the Eagle Lake City Council again expressed concerns about the impact this proposed project may have on the wildlife. They again appeared to not truly understand what an Environmental Impact Statement is. The developer's team provided "answers" to the submitted concerns, 124 of them. Nearly every single source provided was the 2020 EAW that was already deemed insufficient to address the concerns OR the 2022 supplemented piece that was being questioned. (more information about this meeting can be found at our website.)
And they again voted 4-1 to not move forward with an EIS. Once again, Mayor Auringer was the sole vote for an EIS. This was also his last city council meeting. We thank him for the time he took to speak with residents, to speak with us, and asking good questions and challenging when that answer didn't seem to fit.
They have NOT shown adequate studies to sufficiently address the noise impact on wildlife. As for the cumulative effect this project may have on climate change? There's an effect. More than once the excuse was used that the information wasn't available, there aren't any studies, etc. So because they can't find the supporting information the possibility of impact doesn't exist?
Projects such as this do not exist near wildlife lakes FOR A REASON.
While it appears that many supporters have finally understood that this is NOT an actual motorsports park with go-karts, a drag strip, big events, etc., a few remain to insist we shouldn't be allowed to speak at city council meetings because of our address (just over the Madison Lake/Eagle Lake line) or that we should check out facilities that are simply not comparable to this proposed project. Of course, we've long known this is a probably bait-and-switch as this current plan doesn't seem feasible, so it won't be long until the developer either sells or begs the city to allow big events, spectators, etc. to bring in money. As most understand, increased business = increased traffic, increased noise, increased costs (further improvements to the Hwy 14/CR 27 intersection already struggling with issues?).
Our appeal was filed with the Minnesota Appellate Court on January 19, 2023.
