Residents for the revision and expansion of Osler dog park

Residents for the revision and expansion of Osler dog park

The Issue

This is a petition put forth by The Osler Community Dog Park Group. We are a group of residents from the immediate and surrounding area of the Osler playground seeking to revise the current plan for construction and renewal at the park.

As dog owners living in the neighborhood, we  use the dog park in its current form daily- some of us two or three times a day. It's a place where our pets can freely roam, play, and socialize in a safe and contained space. However, the proposed plan for Osler park significantly reduces this much-needed space for our dogs.

Toronto is home to approximately 300,000 dogs. Yet only about 1% of city parks are dedicated as off-leash areas (OLA) for dogs (City of Toronto Parks & Recreation). This lack of space is already an issue and reducing it further will only exacerbate the problem. Alternative off leash areas in the neighbourhood are either too small or not fenced and don’t provide the safe space some owners and dogs require.

The revised plan effects dozens and dozens of dog owners who rely on this space for their pets physical activity and social interaction. Dogs need adequate room to run around freely; it's essential for their health and wellbeing.

We urge the city and project development team to reconsider their decision on the Osler park plan. We request them to increase the proposed area allocated as a dog park in order to accommodate our furry friends better.

Please sign this petition if you believe in creating a more pet-friendly environment in our city parks. Let's ensure that all residents - including those with four legs - have enough room to enjoy Toronto’s public spaces!
