Project Overview (1)
The Quality Inn at 6465-201 Street in the Township of Langley has been purchased and is undergoing renovation by BC Housing to convert the existing 50-room hotel into 49 units of supportive housing and programming space, and an office for a new Intensive Case Management (ICM) team.

About the Project (1)
This proposal is a response to the growing need in Langley for housing to transition individuals experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness from shelters, the street, and unstable housing, into housing with supports, and ultimately into independent housing. A March 2017 homeless count found 206 individuals experiencing homelessness in the City and Township of Langley.

Public Input
A public information meeting was held on October 30 to learn more about the proposal, housing model, support services, and partners. There was also an opportunity to ask questions and provide input. The Township of Langley is currently considering the re-zoning application that BC Housing has submitted to them for the Quality Inn project with a public hearing to be announced before the final decision.

Reasons to Back the Project

A 2017 homeless count shows homelessness in the Langleys is up 124% from 2014 (2).

Given the status quo, homeless individuals cost the system an estimated $55,000/year. It costs $37,000/year to provide them with housing and supports (3).

Supportive housing relieves pressures on first responders and the criminal justice system.

It's the right thing to do.
