Raising chickens is a worthwhile venture that not only teaches you a valuable skill, but yields fresh eggs that will feed your family. Todays prices of eggs in the store have increased an astounding 60% over the last year! As the zoning code currently states, "Except as allowed in this section, it shall be unlawful for any person to keep, raise, maintain, or pasture any animal that does not fit under the definition of a domestic animal including, but not limited to, cattle, mules, goats, sheep, swine, poultry, other livestock, exotic, or wild animals in all zoning districts, whether improved or unimproved". Exceptions include horses, and pot-belly pigs. I want my daughters (and any resident in this city who chooses) to know the joy of raising animals that will teach how food really makes it to the table. Please join me in telling the city counsel to remove/amend this section of zoning code. 

       This petition is to present the City Council with a proposal to allow a reasonable amount of chickens on residential zoned properties within the city limits of Cape Coral.
