Reschedule Graduation Day scheduled on same day of a Major Muslim Holidays

The Issue

The fact that we live in EP with such diversity and yet graduation day was chosen on a major religious holiday by administration is inconsiderate, even to the level of religious discrimination. It is quite disturbing, especially for those families and graduates in an unsolvable dilemma.

For this reason, we are respectfully requesting that the day of graduation be changed so graduates do not have to choose between celebrating Eid Al-Adha for the last time at home or attending the graduation ceremony, especially as this is always done for other major religious denominations. As indicated, it seems inexcusable to set a date when it was well known by administration that Eid Al-Adha could fall on June 7, 2025. There are other dates that can be chosen to avoid such a dilemma. We understand that there are other constraints. However, a major religious holiday supersedes many of these. In addition, no other major district in the western suburbs (Minnetonka, Orono, Wayzata, Edina, Bloomington, Richfield, Osseo, Robbinsdale, Mound Westonka) has chosen June,7 for their graduation ceremony.

We requested at the forum for administration to send a communication to the senior class families that the high school graduation date is under review and to hold off on making any plans. We hope that this will be treated as the urgent matter that it is.

Rescheduling the graduation day is an opportunity for our school to celebrate its diversity and ensure that every student, regardless of their religious affiliations, can participate in this important event. By doing this, it honors our values of inclusion and respect for all members of our community.

Please demonstrate your solidarity with us by signing this petition. Urge the concerned administration to reschedule the graduation day to a date that does not conflict with any major religious holidays, thus ensuring that all graduating seniors and their families can fully participate in their celebration without having to compromise their religious obligations.

Thank you for the support.
