The upcoming high school football game between Giles and Galax, scheduled for October 31st, 2023, falls on Halloween night. This presents a significant conflict for many students, parents, and community members in Giles County, and Galax. Halloween is a cherished tradition in our community, celebrated with family gatherings, community events, and, most importantly, trick-or-treating for our younger citizens. 

Holding the game on this particular night forces families and students to choose between attending the game and participating in Halloween activities. For our players, it means missing out on the excitement and joy of Halloween—a time when they should be able to bond with family and friends. Furthermore, community support for our team might be limited, as many will be preoccupied with the evening's festivities.

Our proposal is simple: reschedule the game to another date. By doing so, both schools ensure full participation from their teams and allow families to engage in Halloween activities without compromise. This adjustment would demonstrate respect for community values and enhance school spirit through increased attendance and support at the rescheduled game.

We urge the relevant school authorities and the sports scheduling committee to consider this request. By rescheduling, you will be fostering a greater sense of community and ensuring that all students can fully engage in both their academic and extracurricular activities without having to sacrifice cultural traditions.
