Reschedule GGSIPU exam set on a government Eid holiday
Reschedule GGSIPU exam set on a government Eid holiday
The Issue
As a Muslim, being part of the minority community in India, it's disheartening to find that on 28th May 2026, there are examinations scheduled not only in Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) but also in Delhi University (DU). With only three major Eids observed by the Muslim community, conducting exams on such an important religious holiday feels inconsiderate and insensitive.
The 28th of May 2026 has been declared a government holiday in observance of Eid. This gazetted holiday is meant to allow Muslim students, along with their families, to celebrate this special day, which holds tremendous spiritual and cultural significance. By scheduling an exam on this day, the university administration may inadvertently overlook the importance of accommodating religious observances.
Conducting exams on a gazetted holiday can lead to significant inconvenience for students, ranging from logistical challenges due to reduced public transportation to emotional and psychological stress from being unable to observe important religious traditions. Public transport services tend to be limited during public holidays, making it difficult for students to travel to examination centers.
It's essential to foster an inclusive academic environment where students from all backgrounds feel respected and supported. By rescheduling the examination date, the university can demonstrate its commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to fully participate in their religious observances without compromising their academic responsibilities.
We, the students of GGSIPU, humbly request the university administration to reconsider the examination schedule and reschedule the exams set for 28th May 2026. This action will not only alleviate the practical difficulties faced by students on a government holiday but also show empathy and respect towards the cultural and religious needs of the Muslim community within the university.
Please sign this petition to urge GGSIPU to change the exam date on this important day. Your support can make a significant difference in recognising the diversity of our student body and fostering an inclusive academic atmosphere.
