Reschedule Canceled KISS Concerts in Toronto, Ottawa, and Knoxville

The Issue

Late this year, the hard rock band KISS entered the final leg of their End of the Road tour which is considered their last tour. However, due to Paul Stanley catching the flu, the band's management was forced to cancel three shows in a row: Ottawa, Toronto (Ontario, Canada) and Knoxville (Tennessee, USA)

Now we do not condemn or codone the fact that Paul was sick. Health should always come first. But, the reason this petition was made was due to how poorly the situation was handled.

In Ottawa, fans drove for hours to the venue through a snowstorm, some of them in full makeup, only to arrive at the venue and be informed just moments before the doors were set to open that the concert was canceled. No indication was given to who was ill at that time.

Many fans were upset as they had just literally arrived at the venue or were in traffic and had to turn around. Fans in Toronto remained hopeful that their show was still on.

Sadly, this was not meant to be. At 3pm the following day, it was finally revealed that it was Paul that was ill and that show was officially canceled. This news should have been delivered sooner allowing fans more time to prepare. If he was sick the previous day, it is unlikely he would recover quick enough to perform the following night.

Two days later, the show in Knoxville, Tennessee was also axed and no apology was given.

The result of this has lost the band three shows in a row: two of being the last in Canada, possibly ever and not to mention Toronto has a significantly-sized fanbase.

Instead of rescheduling the lost shows, the band and management have opted to resume and conclude as planned on the remaining dates. Refunds are expected to be delivered but may not be given until after thirty days have elapsed.

But refunds are simply putting a bandage over a bullet hole. Many of us waited six months or more to see KISS one last time whether it was our first, fourth, or twentieth time. Some of us traveled far and will not get our money back from hotels, gas, flights, etc.

Other fans would tell us things like the refund should be enough, we can just travel to another show or that we don't care about the band's health.

Firstly, a refund is considered the easy way out. Not all of us will get all of our money back, due to reasons just aforementioned. If bands truly care about playing for their fans they will do the right thing and make it up to us.

Secondly, not everyone has the lifestyle, time, or budget to travel far for the nearest show if the local one was canceled. There is nothing wrong with a preferring local show.

And thirdly, we DO care about the band's health. Nobody would want Paul or any of the band members to go on stage sick. We simply just want what we paid for after they recover.

This tour could have been organized better. The band members are no longer young and spreading the dates out would have allowed one to recover from illness without cancelations. If there was an illness it could have also made sense to postpone the tour as well.

Seeing KISS live is not an opportunity that comes often for people and we simply request the band and management make it up to their fans who lost the opportunity to enjoy one last night with them.
