My car, as well as others have been vandalized multiple times while it was parked in the green parking lot at Calgary International Airport (YYC). We pay monthly for this parking space,  and should feel safe and secure leaving our vehicles there while we are at work. Unfortunately, without proper surveillance measures in place, the parking lot becomes a hotspot for vandalism and theft, affecting many others like me who rely on this facility.

The YYC green parking lot serves hundreds of employees and travelers every day. It is crucial for the Calgary Airport Authority to recognize the alarming increase in vandalism incidents and prioritize enhancing the security measures in place. The installation of functional and reliable surveillance cameras would act as a significant deterrent to potential criminals, while also providing essential footage that can aid in solving and reducing crimes.

Statistics from various studies reveal that parking lot surveillance can decrease the occurrence of crimes by up to 50%. In cities comparable to Calgary, airports have successfully implemented modern surveillance systems that have drastically reduced crime rates and improved the sense of security among both employees and travelers. The safety of all who utilize the YYC parking facilities should not be compromised any longer.

We urge the YYC airport authority to take immediate and decisive action by installing and maintaining effective surveillance cameras throughout the green parking lot. This investment will not only safeguard vehicles but also restore peace of mind to all users of the parking facility.
