Our family and many others in Wiltshire are facing uncertainty over waste services as Wiltshire Council proposes a move from fortnightly to three-weekly bin collections starting in 2027. This change comes at a time when our council tax has already increased by 4.99%, leaving residents paying more but potentially receiving less frequent services.

For many households, especially those with young children, elderly members, or people with health issues, managing waste across three weeks can be a challenging and unhygienic task. Overflowing bins attract vermin and spread unpleasant odours, impacting our quality of life.

Moreover, while the council aims to improve recycling rates and reduce waste, this approach places an additional burden on residents without adequately addressing the root causes of waste production.

Wilshire residents deserve reliable waste management services, especially when we are contributing more to the council's budget. Instead of stretching collections, the council should focus on initiatives that support waste reduction at the source and promote community recycling programs.

Let's urge Wiltshire Council to reconsider the decision to move to a three-weekly bin collection cycle and retain the current fortnightly service. This will ensure that we maintain a healthy, clean, and pleasant environment in our community.
