Walking part of the valley this morning, it was encouraging to see the River Wriggle running clearer, a sign of improvement following a period with no CSO discharges. However, there was still a noticeable absence of wildlife, which highlights how much recovery is still needed.

Water testing was carried out at two locations:
1. River Wriggle (between Yetminster and Chetnole)
Ammonia: 0
Phosphate: 0.37
E. coli: results pending (48 hours)
2. Tributary from one of the Leigh CSOs (before joining the Wriggle)
Ammonia: 0
Phosphate: 0.73
E. coli: results pending (48 hours)

With no CSO discharges recorded over the past 10 days, these results provide a valuable snapshot of how the river begins to recover when pollution inputs are reduced.

The elevated phosphate levels in the tributary remain a concern and may indicate ongoing nutrient pollution, even in the absence of recent discharges.

The upcoming E. coli results will be particularly important in helping us understand how quickly bacterial contamination levels fall once discharges stop.

This is exactly why continued monitoring matters, it builds the evidence needed to push for real, lasting solutions.

If you’re out walking the river, please share any photos or observations, every bit of information helps strengthen the case for change.
