Require transparency in equine vet history for buyers

Require transparency in equine vet history for buyers
The Issue
The buying and Selling of Horses and Ponies in the current climate is a very cruel and deceptive place. I have trusted people I shouldn’t have, I bought into people I shouldn’t have and these people happily sell these unfit for purpose/poorly equines to innocent children/adults.
We should be allowed full access to all medical past history to help a towards understanding the needs of the pony/horse and having a clear picture upon sale.
In the equine market, it’s not uncommon for crucial medical histories to remain undisclosed to prospective buyers. This creates an environment ripe for unforeseen complications, as seen in our personal encounter. Potential owners, like myself, commit emotionally and financially to their purchases, assuming the risk of unknown health issues due to a lack of transparency in medical records. This not only endangers the well-being of the horses and their new owners but also perpetuates a cycle of mistrust and misinformation.
To safeguard buyers and ensure the welfare of the horses, it should be mandated that all veterinary records accompany the sale of every horse, available to trace back as far and as in-depth as the prospective owner desires. Such a requirement would bolster buyer confidence, enhance animal welfare, and promote fair trading practices within the equine community.
Statistics show that horse-related accidents are well-documented concerns, and many are exacerbated by unaddressed health issues. A horse's vet history should be as accessible as a car's accident history is to a buyer — a standard that protects buyers, sellers, and horses alike.
We call upon regulatory bodies and lawmakers to create and enforce legislation requiring full disclosure of an equine's veterinary history during the sale process. This is not only a matter of financial protection but a crucial step in ensuring the physical safety and psychological peace of mind for riders and handlers alike.
Please sign this petition to advocate for transparency, safety, and fairness in the buying and selling of horses. Join us in urging authorities to act now and make veterinary history accessible to all potential horse buyers.
